What is a hotel key card holder?
The holder is the small printed sleeve or wallet that your guest’s room key slides into when they check in. Some hotels call them wallets, some call them sleeves — they all do the same job: protect the card and put your brand right in the guest’s hand every time they use it.
Three Styles, Printed to Your Spec
We’ve printed branded holders for boutique hotels, chains, and brand loyalty programmes, so no two jobs look quite the same. Most orders fall into one of three constructions — but everything from the stock to the finish is chosen to suit your brand.
Envelope / pocket sleeve. The card slots in from the top, often with a semi-circular cut-out and a contrasting coloured insert behind. Clean, simple, and a popular choice when the front of the holder is your main branding space.
Bifold wallet. Folds open down the middle. The card sits inside one flap, with the front and inside available for branding, welcome messages, Wi-Fi details or loyalty programme info. The choice when you want more printable real estate.
Simple card sleeve with thumb notch. A flat sleeve with a rounded cut-out at the top so guests can push the card out easily. Often paired with embossed logos or recycled stocks for a more tactile, premium feel.
Every job includes: full-colour printing front and back, your choice of stock and finish (matt, gloss, soft-touch, uncoated, recycled), embossing and foiling on request, low minimum orders from 250, and UK-based printing throughout. What Affects Your Price?
Every hotel’s job is a bit different, so prices are quoted per project rather than off a price list. In most cases, four things determine the final price:
- Quantity — bigger runs bring the per-unit price down quickly, starting from our minimum of 250.
- Construction — a simple sleeve is quicker to produce than a bifold wallet with contrasting inserts.
- Stock and finish — recycled stocks, soft-touch lamination, or heavier card weights cost more but look and feel premium.
- Special finishes — embossing, foil accents, and spot-colour printing all add to the cost but are often worth the uplift for brand work.
As a rough guide, a small order (250 of a simple sleeve) can be very cost-effective; a larger bifold wallet with foil and an embossed logo sits at the other end of the scale. We’ll always come back with a clear, no-surprises quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a key card holder, wallet and sleeve?
They’re all names for the same thing — a printed card holder that your guest’s room key slots into. “Holder” is the most common search term, “wallet” usually refers to a bifold style, and “sleeve” usually means a single-pocket envelope or thumb-notch style. Whatever you call it, we print it.
What’s your minimum order quantity?
250 units. We can print in much larger runs for chains and rollouts, but 250 is the floor — designed to suit a single property opening or a refresh run.
Will the holders fit standard hotel key cards?
Yes. Our holders are built around the standard CR80 card size (54 × 86 mm), which fits virtually all RFID and magstripe hotel key cards. If you’re using a non-standard card, send us the dimensions and we’ll cut to fit.
Do you supply blank (unprinted) key card holders?
Yes — if you just need blanks, we can supply unprinted holders in a range of stocks and constructions. Just ask when you request a quote.
Can I see a physical sample before ordering?
Yes — just ask. We’ll pop an unprinted or example sample in the post so you can check the stock weight, finish and construction before committing.
Do you offer recycled or sustainable options?
Yes. We print on Carbon Balanced Paper through the World Land Trust scheme, and we stock a range of recycled and FSC-certified card options. If sustainability is a brief requirement, tell us up front and we’ll spec accordingly.
Can I print different designs for different properties?
Yes. For groups running more than one property, we can set up a print portal that lets each site order its own branded holders from a central approved template. Saves head office chasing, keeps branding consistent.
What artwork do you need from us?
Ideally a vector version of your logo (AI, EPS or PDF) and your brand colour references (Pantone or CMYK). If you only have a low-res file, we can usually redraw it — just ask. No artwork? No problem — our studio can put a design together from a brief.
How long does production take?
A couple of weeks is typical from artwork sign-off to delivery, though we can often turn things around faster when the brief is tight. Tell us your deadline with your quote request and we’ll confirm what’s possible.
